Exterior Upgrade to Historic Home in Greenwood
This country farmhouse was built in 1861. In 1984, The McHenry County Historical Society presented a plaque for its unique architectural features and its significance in the community throughout the years.
The owner of this home in Greenwood, Illinois, grew up in this house. Years later, he bought the home from his parents and began a labor of love restoring the property. Scholl Construction was called in to help with the exterior remodel which had not been updated since the 1970s when the current owner’s father resided the home with aluminum siding. The challenge was to replace the siding with a modern material to insure a solid structure while creating a style that would fit a country farmhouse style. The owners opted for board and batten fiber cement siding by James Hardy. Scholl Construction removed multiple layers of siding, repaired structural damage and replaced insulation. The trim and columns were replaced with new material but were milled to the original 1861 design.
