Historical Renovation, Crystal Lake, IL
The key to an historic renovation is to keep the look and feel of the original structure. Built in 1938, the home was originally a hotel located in Crystal Lake, Illinois, right on the water. Scholl Construction helped the homeowners update and add new features. The original 2 story home had 4 bedrooms, a bath and a half with 4100 square feet of living area.
We removed the mud room and powder room from the front of the house, added a 510 square foot addition, 2 full bathrooms, remodeled the exterior and most of the interior. A new roof was installed, and the aluminum siding was replaced with cement siding that looks like wood and is maintenance free. Most of the windows were replaced. There are 2 new laundry rooms; a small one on the first floor good for summer beach towel laundry and one on the second floor. We installed some period tile in the bathroom and foyer. We have lived in the house – new home really, for it now functions completely differently. We are extremely pleased with the changes in terms of how the new layout works and also the quality of the work. We have had no problems since our final sign-off. We are impressed especially with the quality of the woodwork and attention to structural needs. We were also impressed with the crew; everyone was so competent and a pleasure to work with.
