First Congregational Church
Repairing the ravages of time… Sometimes you can see the changes a construction company makes; sometimes they are hidden in the structure of the building. That was the case when Scholl Construction was called in to repair damage on this historical church. The First Congregational Church is Crystal Lake’s oldest continuous congregation in McHenry County.
The current building was built in 1867 for a total of $7,000. The stain glass windows were purchased for a just $85! The bells in the tower were donated and installed in 1875 and cost $600. Over the years the church has seen many renovations; the last one shored up damage to the wooden structure in the front and steeple and also repaired the concrete steps and entry. Water damage in the bathrooms on the lower lever was also repaired.
