Finding Scholl Construction for our dream house was a true blessing. Pete and his team made this custom house project less stressful but more fun and memorable. We are forever grateful with Pete’s professional and honest advice throughout the project. It is also worth mentioning that even our bank was impressed with Pete’s responsiveness to their calls and queries. They said, ‘It’s always a good sign when you can talk directly to the owner and not given the runaround’. Our experience was a little unique since part of our build timeline was in the beginning of the pandemic when everything shutdown except for the essential workers. Despite the challenges, Scholl Construction was able to complete the project as scheduled without compromising the safety of the tradespeople. As a healthcare worker, I admired Pete’s dedication to ensure everyone’s health and safety. Besides Scholl Construction’s trustworthiness and reliability, their workmanship is topnotch!  It has been a little over a year since we moved in, yet we still continue to fall in love with this little abode each day. More power to Scholl Construction!!!!

‘Scholl Construction — You know it’s one thing to entrust what is likely the largest most important purchase of a lifetime with someone you don’t know… It’s yet another to see into the future and be sure you make the right decision. Five Years ago, Scholl Construction built our home. This home came with a lot of special features to adapt for our special needs son and in every single instance our expectations were met or exceeded. From start to finish every component of the project and timeline was explained and adhered to. Here’s the best part… After 5 Years, we have had zero issues with the home!!! I’ve now seen the future and it’s important to take this time to again say, “Thank you Peter!!!” Our home is a spectacular dream come true – you and your team made it all possible!’

This testimonial was written 2 years after the one above… ‘In case you were wondering… We still love this freaking house you built!!!!! Every second, every hour, every day!’

Patrick, Helen and Pat – Carpentersville, IL

The concept of Universal Design in home building is to create spaces accessible to the whole family no matter what age or level of abilities. In the case of this project, the goal of the universal design was to ensure the family’s special needs son could be comfortable in his own home, while his parents are able to age in place.

Two of the three levels in this home incorporate universal design construction features to make the spaces completely accessible. An electric lift system with ceiling tracks enables easy transfer from bed to the specially designed tub to toilet to desk. Hallways are built to be wide enough to accommodate an electric wheelchair. And with an eye to the future, the lower walkout level provides separate living quarters for a caregiver with a complete kitchen, zero-depth shower access and an elevator to the first floor and garage.  Click here to see the gallery for this home.

Commercial Construction

‘Many thanks for the fine and very efficient work. You are a true professional, Peter, and I look forward not to just the next project but maybe more, as God allows! You worked the way building contractors should: efficient, concise and professional. Warmly’

Dr. Todd – Crystal Lake, IL

Scholl Construction was brought in to build a new waiting room and add more examining rooms in what was a large storage area at Caring Family Medical in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Additionally, an office and checkout area completed the remodel. Once that was done, Scholl Construction moved on to renovating other areas and examining rooms in an older section of the building. After completing the commercial remodel, Scholl Construction built this client’s custom, energy efficient home in Bull Valley.

Residential Remodel/Addition

‘We had a difficult time deciding whether or not to move forward with a home addition on our old, historic house. We loved its character but needed more space to make it functional for our family. We didn’t want to ruin any of its charm and worried that the addition would not be seamless.

From our first meeting, we felt like you understood what we wanted to do and how big of a deal this was for our family. We appreciated how detailed you were through every phase of the project both with our budget and ideas for the house. We always felt like we were on the same page with you and that our communication was constant. You and your sub-contractors were respectful of us, which is important with a three and five-year-old, and more significantly we were amazed with the results. Thank you for making our house feel so special and tackling our big project. We LOVE living here.’

Tim and Beth L. – Crystal Lake, IL

The American Legion built this home in Crystal Lake, Illinois in 1929 as a way to raise money. At the time it was described as the Model Electric Home. It was the first all-electric home in the area with all the modern conveniences of the day. The house was open to the public for tours from Memorial Day through Labor Day and was eventually sold by a lottery. The current owners bought the home with the intention of putting on an addition. Scholl Construction was hired to build a 2-car garage with a master suite above that included a bedroom, bathroom and library. The kitchen doubled in size with a modern double oven, built-in gas range, storage, pantry and granite countertops. As many of the original features were kept including rehanging the original chandelier, that was found stored in the basement, into the remodeled kitchen. The key to any addition and especially to a historic home is to seamlessly match the existing surfaces. Scholl Construction was able to match the original stucco finish between the old and the new structures.

Residential

‘I would most certainly recommend you to anyone considering building a custom built home. You did a nice, clean, quality job on our house and we are very pleased. Feel free to list me as a reference.’

Dave – Huntley, IL

This family lived in a 2 story farm house in Huntley, Illinois that was built in 1850. The house burnt down because of an overloaded circuit starting in one of the bedroom walls. The house was 150 years old and the wiring had not been updated. Scholl Construction built a new home after an insurance claim. The 2400 square feet, 2 story, single family home has an open interior. The first floor incorporates a large master suite, a great room with a natural field stone fireplace, kitchen, laundry room, powder room and custom staircase. The owner and his sons collected the field stones from their property for the fireplace.

Commercial Construction

‘Earlier this year I had the opportunity to move my business into a building I recently purchased. I originally accepted 3 separate bids for the project. Scholl Construction’s bid was the most detailed, it was the clearest and easiest to understand and by a happy coincidence it was the lowest. I had a tight timeline to meet and Peter Scholl assured me it was not a problem. During the project Pete was great at keeping me informed as to what was going on and what the next step would be. He made plenty of suggestions that saved me time and money. When we did run into the inevitable unforeseen issue, he had an answer for it in no time.

In the end, my project was completed in time, as promised to save me from paying another month’s rent and also shortening the construction loan phase. In the end it turned out beautiful, professionally done without any mishaps, sticker shocks or misunderstandings.

I would recommend Scholl Construction to anyone. I will not be looking anywhere else for a general contractor in the future.’

Chuck S. – Algonquin, IL

The owner of Diamond Physical Therapy in Algonquin, Illinois, bought a 4000 square feet freestanding building. He asked Scholl Construction to help build out 3000 square feet of the space for his Physical Therapy business, leaving 1000 square feet to rent out to another business. As part of the build-out, there is plenty of room for therapy and equipment, as well as private office space and an employee break room with washrooms.

Diamond Physical Therapy discovered that many of their clients lived on the west side of the river in Algonquin, Illinois. The owner bought a unit in a strip mall and opened a second office. Scholl Construction was pleased to be hired for the second time to complete the build out for this client. We reconfigured existing walls, created a waiting area, a large room for therapy and equipment with a private examining room, break room and washrooms.

Residential Remodel/Addition

‘We have lived in the house – new home really, for it now functions completely differently. We are extremely pleased with the changes in terms of how the new layout works and also the quality of the work. We have had no problems since our final sign-off. We are impressed especially with the quality of the woodwork and attention to structural needs. We were also impressed with the crew; everyone was so competent and a pleasure to work with.’

Catherine F. and Kevin S. – Crystal Lake, IL

The key to an historic renovation is to keep the look and feel of the original structure. Built in 1938 the home was originally a hotel located in Crystal Lake, Illinois, right on the water. Scholl Construction helped the homeowners update and add features. The original 2 story home had 4 bedrooms, a bath and a half and had 4100 square feet of living area. We removed the mud room and powder room from the front of the house, added a 510 square foot addition, 2 full bathrooms, and remodeled the exterior and most of the interior. A new roof was installed, and the aluminum siding was replaced with cement siding that looks like wood and is maintenance free. Most of the windows were replaced. There are 2 new laundry rooms; a small one on the first floor, good for summer beach towel laundry and one on the second floor. We did some period tile work in the bathroom and foyer.

Residential

‘We built our home during a time when real estate took a hard hit which in turn meant we had less money for our custom built, dream home. Peter worked with us closely to make our dollar stretch as far as we could make it go.’

Jim and Debby C. – Union, IL

With the kids gone, this couple was looking for something different than the city living they were used to. They found a secluded lot near Union, Illinois. Scholl Construction began work on the 4200 square foot, 3 bedrooms, 3 bath single story home with a crawl space and attached 2 car side load garage in January. It was ready for occupancy in June. Highlights include a fireplace, vaulted ceilings, granite countertops in the kitchen, and a screened-in porch as well as a concrete porch in the rear of the house.

Residential Remodel

‘I enjoyed working with Pete and Dave with Scholl Construction. Pete was organized and professional. Dave was a great problem solver and always eager to ensure that the customer was happy. I have, and will continue to, recommend Scholl Construction to friends looking to create a home addition or remodel a large project in their home.

Scholl has all of the administrative tools of a big construction company; contracts, estimating, change orders, insurance policies, etc. With those tools they are very flexible and capable of making changes quickly and communicating them to the customer in a clear and concise manner.’

Chris and Megan J. – Algonquin, IL

This couple bought their home in Algonquin, Illinois, moving there from out of state. Scholl Construction completed their whole house remodel before they moved in. We moved walls around upstairs to reconfigure the rooms, updated flooring throughout, installed reclaimed wood accent walls as well as tile accent walls, remodeled bathrooms and the master suite and added a fresh coat of paint throughout.

Commercial Construction

‘I want to say it was a real pleasure to work with you and your team at Scholl Construction. They were all excellent craftsmen and more importantly, a pleasure to deal with.’

Jeff – Palatine, IL

Reverend John Scott of Crosspoint Lutheran Church began talks with the village planner and board members about a proposal satellite church in Lakewood, Illinois. Rezoning was requested and approved for the remodeling of two retail units into a church in Lakewood. Scholl Construction was hired and the build-out was underway.

Scholl Construction was responsible for steel stud framing, dropped ceiling, plumbing, electrical, heating, drywall and installation of doors and hardware. The church had a great group of volunteers who worked alongside Scholl Construction, painting, completing trim work, hanging electrical fixtures and installing cabinets.

The second job Scholl Construction did for this client was remodeling the kitchen at the original church in Palatine. We replaced the kitchen that had not been updated since the 1970s and was not effective in serving the congregation. We gutted the existing kitchen, expanded it into a storage area, added an entrance into the gym area, installed new appliances, cabinets, fixtures, flooring and made built in coffee makers. We removed the ceiling and added sprinklers and fireproofed the ceiling.

‘Peter Scholl is an outstanding and dedicated building contractor. In a world with cheats and charlatans, Mr. Scholl is a rare honest and hard-working man. The job was done professionally and in a timely fashion. Any problems that were encountered were overcome in a transparent and expedited fashion. I have recommended him to my best friends and will continue to do so.’
