Size Your Custom Home to Fit Your Lifestyle
Leonardo Da Vinci is quoted as saying, ‘Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication’. For many people, the ultimate in simplicity is a custom home fit perfectly to size. These clients don’t need extra bedrooms, a formal dinning room or a bathroom for every member of the family. They want an open floor plan centered around a welcoming kitchen with spaces for relaxing, socializing and enjoying time with family and guests.
Some of Scholl Construction’s recent custom home projects have been for clients desiring a more right-sized home. Yet, as Da Vinci’s quote makes clear, simple sophistication is not an oxymoron. Whatever the reason for wanting to build a smaller home, these projects also include many of the higher-end finishes and special design features many people associate with more extravagant projects.

Take for example the country farmhouse we built for clients in Batavia, IL. The family of three wanted a two-bedroom, two bath home with an open-concept living area, dining space and kitchen. Beautiful hardwood floors, custom cabinetry and tile work make this home special. Though these clients wanted a minimalist home for themselves, they decided to build the house on a full basement and also rough out a second floor in case future owners loved the home and location but wanted more space.

For clients in St. Charles, IL, a narrow piece of property became the perfect spot for a compact, vertical custom home. These clients also wanted an open-concept first floor, but they maximized the space for their family by building two generous bedrooms and a bath upstairs, and another bedroom, bath and office space in the lower level.

For a couple in McHenry, IL, the perfect custom-built home was designed to remind them of the vacation cabin they stayed in for their honeymoon. Built on a wooded lot, the home has a north woods feel with hardwood finishes, a screened-in porch and custom finishes throughout.

Other right-sized projects we have completed include a forever home in Hampshire, IL, and a farmhouse in Huntley, IL. All these projects are showcased on our website.
