To Build or Not to Build . . .

As winter approaches, this certainly is the question on a lot of people’s minds!  With advancements in construction technology, winter has gone from off-limits to full steam ahead.  If you are considering breaking ground this winter here are a few things to consider.

What is Your Return on Investment?
For commercial building projects it always starts with the impact to the bottom line.  If you are considering an expansion project or new building project this winter keep in mind that your construction costs could be higher than in warmer months, but the offset of continuing rising labor and materials offset the cost of building through winter.  Also consider, the revenue gained from opening a location earlier or expanding production sooner often exceeds the increase in costs.  Your contractor can walk you through all of your options and help you make the best decision for your business.

How Fast Do you Need it Done?

Even with the ability to work in the winter, it is still a slower time for many construction companies.  This means people can have more access to crews.  As Peter Scholl explains, “We can build anything in the winter and being slower means scheduling becomes easier.  Even if you need to take more breaks to warm up when working outside, you still come out ahead.”   If you want to be sure your project is done before spring or summer, winter construction can be a great option for you.

Does Weather Still Matter?

As with any time of the year, the weather is still a factor.  In winter construction you can do anything you can do in warmer months.  For example, special steps are taken in working with concrete to make sure it cures properly in colder weather.  That said, just like heavy rains in summer, blizzards and frigid temperatures can delay construction.  Talk to your contractor to find out which weather conditions can impact your particular project.

If you can dream it you can now build it even in the cold months of winter.  Whatever your project is, be sure to work with a reputable contractor that can help you decide if winter construction is right for you.  Questions?  Contact Scholl Construction at 815-479-0910.  Or reach us online through our website.
